The film stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal and Halle Berry. It is the second installment of The Kingsman film series and was released in theaters on January 17, 2017. Set in the 1960s, the film follows Gary "Eggsy" Unwin (Tatum), a teenage member of a 1960s British gang. He is mentored by Harry Hart (Firth), the head of the secret service agency The Kingsmen, and introduces him to Merlin (Brittany Snow), a young American spy who proves an asset to his team. When they infiltrate Eurocorps, an international secret society, and discover Britannia's involvement with it, they must expose it before it is too late.
The first Kingsman film was met with positive reviews from critics and fans alike. It was also a commercial success, having grossed almost twice its budget in worldwide ticket sales. The film has since then received an 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The sequel was announced in January 2016. It was scheduled for release on June 16, 2017, with Vaughn returning to direct and write the script. In May 2016, Egerton confirmed that he would reprise his role of Gary "Eggsy" Unwin in the sequel. On 9 February 2017, it was announced that Julianne Moore and Halle Berry had joined the cast of the film to play the villain Poppy and her henchwoman Ginger Ale respectively. Channing Tatum later joined them to play their partner Agent Tequila. Principal photography for The Golden Circle began in February 2017. Filming primarily took place in the United Kingdom, primarily around London Docklands, Bristol, and parts of Cornwall. The film was released on January 17, 2018 in the United States by 20th Century Fox. It grossed $158 million worldwide against its budget of $155 million .
